Founded on April 1st 1974 in Munich by Lothar Schirmer and Erik Mosel, the
publishing house is today run by
Lothar Schirmer as sole General Manager, with a staff of 13 and various freelances. Schirmer/Mosel Publishers
is currently located at: Widenmayerstr. 16, D-80538 Munich.
1975
The first Schirmer/Mosel book is "August Sander - Rheinlandschaften" (August Sander - Rhine River Landscapes), with an
introduction by the art historian Wolfgang Kemp. The book is immediately well received by the press and the public recognising
it as programmatic for a serious investigation of the art of photography. It is followed by "Heinrich Zille - Photographien
Berlin" (Heinrich Zille - Photographs Berlin) with an introduction by Winfried Ranke. Due to its extraordinary success (with
altogether 50,000 copies sold), the financial basis of the publishing house is secured. ...
